When receiving gifts I've always been one to want to wait and open them once the person who has given them is gone. I've always felt like this showed more appreciation for the gift and the act of gift giving. Some people, though, do get pleasure out of me opening the gift and seeing what is inside.
I don't know why exactly I came to take this disposition, but it was interesting to find that this used to be how the Japanese regarded gifts. Doi says that the Japanese used to wait to open gifts to show their appreciation for the act of giving rather than the gift itself, the symbolic instead of the real.
That's it.
Not quite sure what to make of this:
Peter Jonason (5/27/2006 10:47:53 AM): there are two criteria by which we judge friends
Peter Jonason (5/27/2006 10:48:00 AM): that we allow others to be our friends
Peter Jonason (5/27/2006 10:48:10 AM): ATHEISM and or HOTNESS
Peter Jonason (5/27/2006 10:48:29 AM): if one is an atheist we will forgive their ugliness
Peter Jonason (5/27/2006 10:48:41 AM): if they are hot we will forgive their religion
I've been peeking at Technorati searches for "atheism or atheist or atheists" and this was one of the results that came up. Click here for the full transcript…
Update: Kevin says, "Thats pretty much how i make my choices."
