Daily Journal Entry #11168

  • Class: Last day with reading.
  • Thesis
    • I picked it up and they had bound it upside down! Fortunately, it didn't take long to fix. After that I went to deposit it and there was only one error. Then I was finished! All done!
  • Renter's Insurance: Went to get it.
  • New House: Went to get the keys to our new rental place.
  • Movement: Moved some stuff over.

I was trying to decide whether or not to go to Sabrina's wedding, but I was just so tired and there wasn't anyone to go with me.

Daily Journal Entry #11165

  • Class: White privilege—about half the students said affirmative action is special rights and the other half said that it levels the playing field.
  • Nice McDonalds
    • I got a big mac and a chocolate shake that had an orange taste to it.
    • Wal-Mart
    • I decided to make a journey into the beast to look for half-size index cards.
    • Productive
    • I set up gas and electricity on our new place, called about renter's insurance, then set up the appointment for my thesis deposit.
    • When Zachary Beaver Came to Town
  • Good strange movie about a fat boy who was born in New Jersey and part of a sideshow who makes friends with some boys from Texas. I always enjoy movies that incorporate childrens' perspectives.

My journey into the beast.

I survived a very dangerous trip today—I went to Wal-Mart.

I've been on the hunt for half-size index cards lately, and I thought they might have them at Wal-Mart. Even though I didn't buy anything at Wal-Mart last year, and I have the same resolution this year not to shop there, I decided this was serious enough business to give them a chance.

I didn't get that tense when I walked through the doors, but I did have this irrational fear that I would be spotted at any moment, setting off alarms and summoning security guards to hoist me out. Fortunately, I was able to complete my mission without being identified as an anti-Wal-Mart operative, and I was both happy and sad that they did not have half-size index cards.

It really was strange being in there. Something about it looked different than the last time I went into a Wal-Mart, possibly over a year ago. It struck me as cavernous and disorienting, but above all, hideously synthetic.

Daily Journal Entry #11164

  • Class: Race and biology.
  • Thesis: Put all my bibliographical information into Endnote.
  • Moe's: Talked to Mike Reed about how strange religion is.

Daily Journal Entry #11163

  • UU Forum: "Humanists must stand against pernicious things, and magic is pernicious."
    • It's very interesting to me that this very atheistic humanist thread can coexist under the same unitarian universalist umbrella as the more spiritual people that attend the services.
  • Nap
  • Thesis at Home: Accompanied by some The Hills and Making the Band.
