I was born in 1975 in Bryan, TX, where I’ve spent the majority of my life. I spent six years getting a degree in psychology at Texas A&M University (in brief, I switched from computer science). Worked for a year, got a masters in the social sciences doing a project on gay Catholics at the University of Chicago. Worked for another year, and now I’m getting another masters in anthropology at Purdue University in West Lafayette, IN. For this project I am focusing on the globalization of modern sexual identities, and am focusing on the Japanese gay and lesbian group OCCUR.
The main thing you’ll see on this site is my daily journal updates. I don’t like having days where I don’t remember anything I did, so I try to jot down a few things about each one that passes by. Sometimes I get behind. Sometimes I get way behind. I also (try to) write about sexuality, religion, and Japan. There’s also some responses to different media I’ve exposed myself to. I tried podcasting but I only got two episodes deep.
Some of the terms that describe me on some level are: atheist/pantheist, nihilist, queer/bisexual, and hispanic. I laugh a lot at things that I can’t explain and have a tendency to tell bad puns. I have dark hair, a nose ring, lip ring, tongue piercing, another piercing, and a tattoo. I mostly listen to IDM and DNB. And I’m interested in BDSM. Ah yes, I love chocolate and office supplies, and I’m very tactile. My biggest interest right now is in semiotics, continuing my interest in postmodern theory and thinkers like Foucault.
I think that all living things strive towards pleasure, and that this is the order that undergirds all systems of morality. In addition to this, all of our interactions are predicated on some form of exchange, and our entire experience of reality is a mediated interpretation. The “purpose” of my existence is to maximize my pleasure, but part of my pleasure comes from helping others.
